Special Sounds

Thank goodness for ABCKids. That's all I can say. It is my 10 minutes of sanity in a day that's otherwise filled with "building houses", playing "superman caught in spiderman's - aka Jamie's - evil web" and a variety of other raucous games that entail getting down on all fours and crawling around on the floor.

I have used my moment's break today to post over here.

I made a "Special Sounds" book recently, using a Scrapware Allsorts Album. It's designed for use during our daily exercises for Jamie's speech pathology. I hope it helps.

We are making progress. This week Jamie's finally incorporating "h" sounds into his language. We have been working on "h" for the last month, so I cannot tell you what music it is to finally hear "mummy, can you come to my hhhhouse?" or "mummy, hhhhow do you do this?".

(For those of you that haven't heard Jamie speak, nearly every word used to begin with the letter "g". So "house" was "gouse", but so were any number of other words "mouse", "bounce" etc. "Hello" was "gallo". You get the picture. We still have to work on learning to say "f", "s", "t", "l", "y", "th", and any number of clustered consonants like "fr", "cl", "fl" etc.... It's a long process. A couple of years at least they are telling us.)

I guess that, without this background, people who may have overheard me at the shops on the weekend would have wondered if I had lost my mind when I congratulated him enthusiastically for every "h" utterance. Oh well ;)

Have a great week!
Kathie

What a great idea for speech practice. My daughters speech has improved so much but some of my favourites were gook-book hook-look hore-your (not a good one) uv-love who-you most of her problems were dropping the first letter and replacing letters with h and L very weird. I must not forget to scrapbook these sayings. Good luck

What a fantastic book! Having had three boys with speech delay, and the third with a more severe one I can so get where you are coming from! Although Will still has a few problems at 5, Jordan (who is now 11) has beautiful speech, so you will get there! I have just created some digi 'letter' books, and ordered them, with pictures of him with things around the house. He is up to the stage of learning to write and recognise his letters and we are now struggling with that! One thing at a time!

No surprise that the book was picked up to be published! Well done! I'm glad I saw it before it vanished!
