Facebook status updates

I am having such fun dabbling in mixed-media art at the moment. I'm a complete novice, and have no idea what I'm doing. And gee it's fun :)

This is my latest attempt, up on the Aussie Scrap Source blog at the moment.

The theme was metals and I wanted to do something that was a bit different to the heavy metallic projects I usually associate with metal-rich work (think Tim Holtz, 7gypsies).

I've taken a year's worth of Facebook status updates and compiled them into a list. I cut up the list into chunks and collaged them onto some 7gypsies Victoria paper (lovin' that range - I have a feeling you'll see me using more of that over the next little while).

After painting the background a bit to blend all the papers together, I've added some rubons, strips of calico, more paint, and embellishments.

A metal edging piece at the bottom grounds the layout. I also used metal wire to thread some beads onto the page.

And there you have it!

Some snapshots

Yes, I am still trying to remember to take photos. Life gets hectic though, and I can't always be bothered. But here are some from our last week:

8/3/10: Hide and Seek

11/3/10: Late for work! Adelaide hosted the Clipsal 500 car race this week. Parts of the city get converted to a race track. The daily commute into town has slowed to a crawl this past few weeks, as the road closures have progressed.This is the time on the town hall clock as I walk to work. Eeek. I should have been there ages ago! Traffic! I need a strong coffee.

12/3/10: Today Jamie has to go to childcare dressed as a car, in honour of the Clipsal 500. Phil got busy last night with a piece of heavy-duty cardboard and some of my acrylic paints and made this little number.

19/3/10: My poor possum is sick. Again. Sleeping on the couch.

21/3/10: Strawberries from Grandma's garden.

I am not feeling so crash hot today. Jamie has been ill since last Friday. It's not often that I keep him at home, but he's just been exhuasted and so he hasn't gone to kindy all week. Tomorrow I am supposed to go to work, but guess what? I have a shocking headache, no energy and a scratch throat. Oh oh. I think I will take it easy on the couch today and hope that I make a quick recovery.

Holiday memories mini album

Our holiday at Christmas time seems but a distant memory now. So, I'm glad I got the chance to make this little album when I got home from our visit.

I've used Teresa Collins Family Matters line and interspersed the solid pages with some of her transparencies.


Love the eclectic mix!
I'm also really happy that I captured all those little moments from while we were away. Special moments with my sister and her family.

Grandparents

Michelle Jamieson, a fellow 2008 Scrapbooking Memories Master sent me some of her gorgeous embellishments for me to use. This is what I made.

The photo is of Jamie and his grandparents on Christmas Day. Man, the child loves his gamma and gandad (as he calls them).

And me? Well I love this little birdie :)

A layout for Aussie Scrap Source's weekend inspiration post:

BasicGrey Nook and Pantry. At first glance it looked too girly to be used for my two boys. But, after having a closer look I discovered it's amazingly versatile. And this is what I ended up doing.

I am feeling very disorganised after a long weekend. All the housework that should've got done yesterday didn't. And today I just don't feel like making up for it. And I'm not going to. :) Instead, I've made lego structures, assisted with some colouring-in, and made a casserole which is currently simmering in the crock-pot.

I thought I'd tease you one more time with a sneak peek of one of the layouts I'll be teaching next Saturday at Seriously Scrapbooking.

Theme: boy/girl, autumnal, outdoor

And this is a snippet of the other layout we'll be making:

Theme: beach, summer, boy/girl

Both pages use the brand spankin' new Prima, just out. Swoon! With a boy twist, just for those of us who scrap boys. But of course Prima is just delightful for anything, so the pages will work equally well for those of you with girls.

If you are coming to the class, we will be doing inking, distressing and some paper-piecing. The beach layout takes two 4x6inch photos, and the autumnal layout takes one 4x6 inch photo. You can get a pretty good idea of colour schemes from the pictures above.

Excursion

Jamie's childcare class went on an excursion yesterday. They walked around the Central Markets in the city and enjoyed the decorations that are in place to celebrate the Chinese New Year. He loved it.

As we pulled in to childcare again this morning he asked me:

"Mummy, are we going on a bees-gorshen today?"

Can you tell I'm lovin' these funny little words?
